# DNS propagation timeline

> Understand how long DNS changes take and how to verify them.

## How long it takes

* Typically 15 minutes to a few hours.
* Global ISPs may cache up to 24–48 hours.

## Verify

* Use WhatsMyDNS and dig/nslookup.
* Lower TTL to 300 before planned changes.

## Tip

Avoid frequent back‑and‑forth DNS changes to reduce cache confusion.
